About G.Y.R.O.'s
Dan Nelson founded the non-profit organization, GYRO (Global Youth Resource
Organization), in order to raise funds to fight substance abuse among
juveniles and other youth-related programs. In order to raise funds, the
group decided to try their hands at haunted attraction events in the Bay
Area. The group got started in 1989 with Gyro's World of Terror and based
on their success, continued to expand throughout the area by adding haunts
in San Jose, San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Sacramento, Cupertino, Milpitas,
and even Paramount's Great America and the Scream Park at the MGM Grand
in Las Vegas. The attractions took on various names such as Gyro's Scream
Factory, Gyro's Scream Park, Gyro's Festival of Fear, Gyro's Screamfest,
and most popularly, Gyro's 3D Fear Factory. Within eleven years, the group
had raised over $1 million for the local charities and decided to take
their venture commercial in 1999. Since their creation, they have become
a major force in the haunted attraction industry and innovators in haunt-related
technology. In fact, their digital stereoscopic 3D film technology deployed
in Gyro's 3D Fear Factory was so cutting edge, they developed a new company
called Kerner Mobile Technologies around it in 2007. |
